IMF Chief Warns of AI Divide Between Developed and Developing Economies
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has raised alarms about the growing disparity in AI adoption between advanced and developing economies. The technology's potential to boost productivity and innovation risks becoming concentrated in nations with existing infrastructure, leaving emerging markets behind.
Georgieva highlighted the lack of regulatory frameworks and ethical guidelines during the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings. "We are falling shortest in establishing the foundation for AI's future," she stated, noting the U.S. currently dominates AI development with China as the only significant competitor.
